Say Sorry

Sorry I haven't been as attentive to writing my blog as I should be. No excuses. I am super busy but we all are, so no excuses here.

"Sorry" - that word is a thing of the past in my opinion. Why is it so tough for someone to admit they were wrong? We all make mistakes, but most of us like to blame it on the other "guy". It feels better to be above the line and admit you were wrong.

Think about this for a minute or two. If you are a boss or a parent (who's also the boss), do you realize how powerful it is to admit you screwed up? In the case of a boss, the employee realizes you are also a human being and you can relate. As a parent, you teach your child that even though it's natural to put you on a pedestal, the fact remains you are human.

Our egos today are enormous. It's "This guy did this" and "She did that" or "I would have done...." If you say you're sorry to someone, the onus is on them. If they don't forgive you, it's now THEIR problem because you had the courage. If they want to hold a grudge against you, there is nothing you can do about it.

Being the bigger man or woman does take some courage, but in the end it's not only the right thing to do, but it's the smart thing to do. The only trap is you have to mean it or people can pick up on it. Falling back on it as an excuse for bad behavior won't cut it. When you really screw up, mean it, own it, and you'll feel much better.

So am I right? Let me know.
